Version 1 was technically part of my original go kit though it only went to one place!
The radio was mounted using its mobile mount bracket to the side of the case with the display facing upwards for easy viewing. A short coax cable was extended to the front also for either direct attachment of an antenna or another cable.
Version 2 is utilising my standardised modular go-kit plan centered around a specific size case
This case was too small to mount the radio in the same way I had done previously so I planned to mount it on the side and have the display flush mount on top (as it has ended up). The display has a plastic backing mount which holds it to the main radio body and a single 20 wire ribbon cable connecting display/controls to the main radio. I tried various lengths of the same spec cable to try and "remote head" the unit but, while the controls would work to turn the radio on/off, the display was always blank. In the end I simply rotated the head 90 degrees upwards which allowed me to fit the radio in the case and still have the screen usable and attached with the original short cable.
In addition to the mounted radio, this kit also has space for an HT as a backup.
